As a student at the École de Technologie Supérieure, Roch D’Amour is studying Software Engineering with a specialization in distributed embedded systems.

He joined Stingray as part of his end-of-study internship for the winter 2022 session. A conclusive experience since he decided to extend his internship via a part-time position for four more months before seizing the opportunity of a permanent job in IT security.

What made you want to join Stingray for an internship?

I wanted to work in the specific area I was studying. Since this was my last academic internship, Site Reliability Engineering is the field I wanted exposure to.

It was important for me to be part of a team and be challenged daily while contributing to the advancement of the tools and processes to make a real impact on the business.

When I saw the internship offer, what appealed to me were the tasks and the technologies used, but also the benefits and the Stingray culture.

What did you like most about the atmosphere at Stingray?

I will never forget my first day at the office. Everything, including the atmosphere, the people, and the way we work together, is relaxed. Expressing your ideas without fear of judgment makes a powerful difference in your daily life.

Everyone here is thoughtful and incredibly skilled, and the projects move forward with positivity and enthusiasm.

Today, you are a permanent full-time employee. What is your new role like, and is it evolving as you imagined it would after your internship?

I now have the opportunity to work with the Cybersecurity Lead to build the foundation for all security tools for software development. Together, we work on defining the vision and implementing the strategy to improve the security aspect of software development and empower users.

The role evolution is different from what I had in mind, but I am incredibly happy with this new challenge. I am learning a lot and playing a more strategic part in the business.

What is it like to work in the Technology department in the music industry?

It’s fun. The culture is very music-oriented. People share the sounds and artists they listen to and the concerts they go to… there is clearly a shared passion!

Music also has an impact on the tools we work with. For example, I have to ensure the karaoke API is always available. It’s cool to work on such tangible projects!
